Deserae Dahlgren – Kindergarten

Deserae says that one of the most thrilling things about teaching kindergarten is the opportunity to foster excitement about school and to see students accomplish something that ignites their imagination.  She loves getting to know each child on an individual basis so that she can meet each child’s need and see them excel.

Deserae is a Chico local who attended an Open Structure classroom during elementary school.  After graduating from Cal State Long Beach in 2010 with a multiple subjects teaching credential it has been her dream to return to an Open Classroom. She believes that the educational philosophy is ideally suited to her desire to bring out the best in each child.

“Having the opportunity to teach in an open classroom is my dream. I thrive on teaching to the whole child and have carried the philosophy of an open classroom all through my college career and into my own classroom as a teacher. I believe that the world should be our classroom as we dive into every aspect of a subject using critical thinking and multiple intelligences to get there. As a teacher I know how important it is to get parents and community members involved in their student’s education. Something that I especially love about the open classroom is the opportunity for students to discover their own truths.”

Deserae is excited about the prospect of coming into a new school where she has the opportunity to help build from the ground up.  She will also bring her enjoyment of outdoor activities.  She loves to wake board in the summer and snow board in the winter, currently plays on a co-ed softball team and is a certified life-guard.  Wildflower is lucky to have Deserae’s positive energy, experience and love of students.
