Charlene Van Reusen – After School Coordinator

My name is Charlene Van Reusen and I have been a WOC parent since 2012, Mom to students Keegan and Jacob. I have also been a very active parent within our community– I was Classroom Co-op Coordinator for Debbie’s 1/2 class in 2014 as well as CCC for Victoria’s 1/2 class for the 2014 & 2015 school years, and I was the lunch field duty supervisor during the 2015 school year.  In the Fall of 2015, I was a classroom aide for Lindsey’s 3/4 grade class where I helped facilitate groups of 3-4 children during math groups and commitment times. Working alongside of Lindsey has broadened my understanding and love of what an open structure classroom looks like.

During this same period, I served as the After School Program Assistant for the After School Awesomeness Program. I knew most of the kids already so I felt confident and assured jumping right in. I enjoyed leading activities with the kids such as cooking and making various creations come to life. What a bunch of fun they are! I also learned the logistics of the program such as client communication, billing, and staffing, and served as the coordinator on occasions when Emma was out.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family going to music festivals and doing outdoor recreation like camping and hiking. I have enjoyed being a part of such a wonderful community we call Wildflower Open Classroom. I am very excited to lead the After School Program this year with enthusiasm and positivity, with the goal of fostering a creative, engaging and active environment for all the students.
